My first rambling.
April 11, 2011
I have avoided blogging, and I honestly do not know why. I fancy myself as a writer, so you would think blogging would be something I would pounce on.
I suppose I should give a hint as to who I am. I am a mom of two children. I am a teacher. I am a hab tech. I used to be a graduate student, but I hit a serious road block and doubt that my Master's degree will ever be completed.
There is nothing more boring than a parent bragging on his/her children, so why break tradition? My oldest is my son. He is 27 years old right now, and he is disabled. He has a condition called Sturge-Weber Syndrome. He attends a workshop that provides services for people with special needs. He has excelled in painting, pottery, and theatrics. My daughter is 22 years old presently. She is a student at Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is seeking her degree in elementary education. I only hope there is a job for her when she graduates.
As for me personally, I did not go to college until I was 38 years old. I got married a year after I graduated from high school, then started having babies at 21. I was a housewife for ten years. I have worked as a baker, a bill collector, deli worker, and substitute teacher. I became a Hab Tech 3 when I was 41. I work with an adult with special needs. After I graduated from college in 2005 with a double major in English and History, I did some substitute teaching. I wanted to be a teacher, but subbing just was not my idea of what I really wanted to do.
When I was in college, I told my friends that I wanted to teach people who wanted to learn. My goal at that time was to teach college. As I subbed, I was told about a job at my local community college. It was a job in the Adult Literacy program to teach special needs adults. Now, I was (and still am) raising a son with special needs, why would this job appeal to me? I was hired and have been teaching for four years now.
Well, I don't want to tell all of my secrets. Let us save more for another time. Feel free to ask me any questions about my blog. I will answer them to the best of my ability.
Love and peace,
